Test Valley Borough’s Cabinet last week agreed to recommend that the authority’s Gypsy and Traveller document be put out to public consultation.
The recommendation will now go before full Council on 28th January 2015 for a final decision on whether to publish it for a six week public consultation period.
The Government requires local authorities to ensure that the needs of gypsies, travellers and travelling showpeople are met. Test Valley Borough Council has been working to quantify the existing and future level of need in the area and has produced the document which identifies three possible sites: gypsy sites in Wellow and Timsbury, and a separate site for showpeople also in Wellow.
Planning and Transport Portfolio Holder, Councillor Martin Hatley, said: “We must take the needs of all our communities into account. The Gypsy and Traveller document is an important component of the Council’s planning strategy for the future and I would welcome people’s views on this document.”
