Traveller Site in Shepherds Spring Lane

August 12, 2013 by Andover Town

Travellers moved into the car park at Shepherds Spring Lane over the weekend with a reported 30 caravans there last night (Sunday).

They were reported to be on the fields at Chrlton near to the BMX track and then moved to the current location.

This comes after travellers recently setup camp at Ladies Walk, leaving a clear up operation when they finally left.

These travellers have been reported to the Police by myself. Also as one of the wards Councillors I have spoken to the environmental & enforcement teams at TVBC. I have been down there to take a look myself & have spoken to several residents tonight on several issues for this area. Lets hope that there is not to much rubbish to clear up when they move on!

It is gratifying to know that one of the ward Councillors is on the case, it means I can sleep firmly in my bed at night.

It seems to me that these so-called travellers (who seem to want to be non-mobile!) have beaten Ian Carr and his team to the proposed ”dash and pay” parking! One assumes that they are not paying for parking as we residents have to and that the Shepherd’s Spring car park barrier is not being locked as advertised!?

Think they’ve gone now, just got caught up in a load of caravanners at least heading towards tesco roundabout and up past walworth industrial.

We saw loads of them going round the Tesco roundabout with a police escort and one following, taking them to the A303 at about 12:45 this afternoon 🙂

Yes the barriers are being used as advertised. Shepherds Spring Lane carpark is locked at 8pm each night. The travelers arrived at around 6.30pm!!

Yes Nigel, thanks The point I was trying to make was as the travellers arrived at 6.30pm were the barriers locked at 8pm thus locking them in the car park? I don’t suppose they paid to park and if the barriers were locked then I suppose they would have forced them open!
Thanks Nigel for all the good work you and some of the local councillors do. It seems to me that it is the more recently elected councillors who do the leg work whilst the longer serving councillors allow this town to degenerate.
