River Anton Close to Overflowing in Town Centre

February 12, 2014 by Andover Town

As the Environment Agency issue a Flood Warning for the River Anton in Bridge Street, the river is starting to lap at the edges near the Town Mills.

With some of the retaining wall missing, water from the river is starting to overflow to the pavement and if the level raises a further 1″ – 2″ (25mm – 50mm) it will start to flood the pavement area alongside it.

Updated at 6.30pm

Test Valley Borough Council have sandbagged the path edge, blocking the gaps.

It’s scary to think how fast the water levels have risen up. It’s bad enough the river has risen that much near Charlton Place, behind the college, that it’s gone from trickling onto the footpath and onto the road to a small, fast running stream. Perhaps we should get minor offenders to help clean up the river of the crap that’s in there and to rebuild anything that’s in disrepair.
