A Flood Warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for Andover on the River Anton. Flooding is expected for Andover, Upper Clatford, and Goodworth Clatford on the River Anton .
The alert goes on to say:
Immediate action required.
The river through Andover is very high and levels are rising around Bridge Street and Charlton Road. 20mm of rain is forecast for today, with similar totals expected on Friday and again on Monday. As a result of the weather forecast and high groundwater levels, the river will continue to rise over the next week. Properties close to the river should be prepared for flooding.
This flood warning will be updated on Thursday 13th February at 21:00.
- Act now to protect yourself and your property.
- If it’s safe to do so, block doors with flood boards or sandbags and cover airbricks and other ventilation holes.
- If you are caught in a flash flood, get to higher ground. Stay away from flood water and don’t take risks.
- Move family, pets and valuables to a safe place.
- Keep a flood kit ready including a torch, batteries, fully charged mobile phone, warm clothes, water, food and any prescription medicines you may need.
- If it’s safe, make sure your neighbours are aware of the situation and offer help to anyone who may need it.
- Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
- Turn off gas, electricity and water if your property is about to flood. Never touch an electrical switch if you are standing in water.
- Call Floodline on 0845 988 1188 using quickdial 0122213 for up-to-date flooding information.
- Keep an eye on local water levels and weather conditions.

I think the Government should re educate people. Teach them NOT to throw 1000’s of wet wipes down the toilet and fat down the sinks. Then perhaps the drainage system would cope a bit better with this weather. Just a thought 🙂 I feel for the people who’s homes will be effected. Its an awful thing for them to have to go through 🙁
Most of our sewage systems are years old and require replacing modern life has changed so much that some of the Victoria systems can’t cope.populations have grown in many areas due to new housing built on flood plains when floods were not a problem.
Agree with baby wipes but until there is a way to monitor this or have responsibility with manufacturer to produce degradable materials mums of today will not change especially with 1 black bin collection every 2 weeks.we must change and rivers must be maintained not just in the towns were it can be seen.in parts river Aston is built up with silt and rubbish but because it’s not in a high profile area it gets left. Please clean the rivers.
