Councillor Tony Hooke has been told by Hampshire Police that he has been cleared of the alleged assault for which he was arrested last month.
Speaking to Councillor Hooke earlier today, he confirmed that the Police said there were no charges to answer to after he was arrested following an incident at a UKIP public meeting at Portsmouth Guildhall on 28th April.
He quit as a UKIP councillor earlier this month because of the arrest and is currently standing as an independent.
In October 2013 an investigation into alleged “election bribery” by Councillor Hooke was also dropped after he was told there was no case to answer to.

This is a disgusting waste of police time and resources by some bitter and twisted people, who are paid by the taxpayers to do some work, not to instigating vindictive petty scenarios that have no basis in fact!!!!! No wonder the Town is on its knees.
I would sue for harassment if I was in his shoes!
How can the police investigating a complaint bear any relevance to the performance of the town?
I’m glad to see the police are doing their job and investigating alleged crimes.
Maybe the bigger question should be when is Mr Hooke going to explain his actions to the people who voted for him.
Since the charges have been dropped and bearing in mind that Mr Hooke resigned from Ukip because of these charges does this mean that Mr Hooke is now going to rejoin Ukip.
Or is there another reason why Mr Hooke left Ukip. Like say he was asked to leave ?
When principled people get into positions of possible power then the corrupt establishment will put its waggons in a circle to protect their own interests.
Will there now be fresh charges against those making scurrilous claims, or will the system again quietly drop the issue to protect the simple fact that the prosecution is in many cases wrong or simply lies.
Don’t hold your breath, ‘the system’ would like you to believe that ‘the system’ works and is honest.
Is it any coincidence that Tony Hooke prior to his arrest publically handed in complaints to the Police Crime Commissioner about Hampshire’ s Chief Constable regarding his police management re a failed school where rape was reported?
Just so we all realise. S Evans works for Mr Hooke. Liz Ferla worked with Mr Hooke in UKIP. So who is manipulating who. Mr Hooke complained about Hampshire’s police constable. Is that in his remit ?
I think not! How does his actions help the people of Andover who he represents ?
Stan Evans does not work for Tony Hooke – what is wrong with you people?
I read with disgust Cllr Perry’s comments in the Andover Advertiser article of the 13th June 2014 entitled “Scuffle probe councillor decides he’ll go it alone”.
Cllr Perry claimed of Cllr Tony Hooke that “His behaviour has not been a credit to himself, his party or the county council”.
What a hypocrite Cllr Perry is. He is the father of an MP who was exposed by a national newspaper for having extra marital sex with her toy-boy lover in a hotel at the tax payers expense.
What a shame Cllr Perry’s pontification on “behaviour” does not extend to the conduct of his daughter, MP Caroline Nokes.
Cllr Perry’s personal attack on Cllr Hooke illustrates perfectly why people are turned off by politics and the double standards of politicians.
I hope now that Cllr Hooke has been cleared that Cllr Perry makes a public apology retracting his own unprofessional comments.
And for the record I don’t work for Cllr Hooke either. I don’t work for anyone but myself.
@N Maher and readers. N Maher says ”S Evans works for Mr Hooke”
Well that’s certainly news to me.
For the records, I do not work for Tony Hooke, I have met him twice in my life and spoken to him twice and we have never exchanged emails. I don’t even have his personal email, he does not have mine and we don’t even know where each other lives. Neither do I work as a councillor. Neither am I a member or even a supporter of UKIP or any political party. I am self employed and campaign against police corruption (which is where we met each other, at the Crime Commissioners office in Winchester).
Perhaps Nicholas Maher wants to give me a job? Fact Checker? Story Writer? Head of Propaganda?
As Branch Secretary of UKIP for NW Hants, I can absolutely assure you, at no time was Cllr Hooke ever asked to leave the party. He is a valued member of our community and works tirelessly on local issues. Unlike many local councillors he is not afraid to tackle contentious topics which puts him in the firing line of the establishment. The simple fact is, both Andover and Hampshire need more councillors like him.
