Approach Development Gets The Go Ahead

June 22, 2014 by Andover Town

The development of the Approach Garage site on New Street was given the go-ahead at a TVBC Planning Meeting on Thursday 19th June despite various objections.

The site had laid empty since the Vauxhall dealership closed in August 2012. Then in December 2013 local residents received letters of a plan to redevelop it with a McDonald’s, wine store, tile warehouse and reopening the filling station.

God help the local residents whose concerns were totally ignored. My house and many others are only 22 metres from the development. Enjoyment of my home will be totally compromised and the new development will be a very imposing presence. There will be noise from extra traffic and Macdonalds tannoy system, plus smell, antisocial behaviour etc and the new retail unit will completely overpower my outlook, The residents were only allowed 3 minutes to state their case in a meeting of over 2 hours. We were not allowed to comment, question or challenge further. This was a foregone conclusion and the residents concerns were never going to be listened to……

I see loads of rubbish from KFC all over the place even in my road near the hospital! You have my sympathy!

Totally agree that the “3 minutes only” for objectors to put their message across at planning meetings is rarely sufficient. However, if you read the planning committee’s report, you’ll see that all the objections made have been covered. Some of the objections raised were considered “not material to the determination of this application.”

The extraction system will be the same used as the one on Portway. Chances are, if you’re getting cooking odours they are making their way from the KFC and the wind’s coming from the NW.

Personally, I’m still not sure that traffic turning right in and out onto New Street has been looked at closely enough. Only time will tell.

Good! Only the NIMBYS objecting to it.
Much better than an empty forecourt, and brings extra jobs to the town.

Very disappointing to have another McDonalds! Already have one, why can’t it be a burger king or something else?!

About time too, this town has been crying out for some serious developments for a long time. Personally, I don’t know how we’ve managed so long without another mc Donald’s and a Topps tiles.

Once it’s open. Then when we get a lot of complants about loads of rubbish from the area that is left all over the place. Will the council act, NO I DON’T THINK SO it will be to late for the residents in that area. You have my sympathy!

What will become of the Keskins van? I suppose I might get used to Macdonalds – eventually!
