Andover Neighbourcare is a local charity providing a wealth of services to the local and wider community including help with:

  • Transport
  • Shopping
  • Cleaning
  • Gardening
  • Relieving Carers

Local businessman Tony Hooke recently posted on Twitter about posting ideas on to him – so to help those of you not on Twitter, please feel free to leave any ideas on how Andover Neighbourcare can raise money by using the Comments section on this post.

As we all know neighbourcare has recently lost its funding. What you may not know is our county
council UKIP candidate Tony Hooke has pledged,if elected,to receive none of his 12k allowance
and instead donate it to neighbourcare as well as provide his time and resources to raise the same
again through events such as the We’re a Knockout championship on Sat 22nd of June at Charlton
    Lakes.
Are any of the other candidates willing to do the same?
Does anyone have any other donations to give or ideas for fundraising?
Although Mr Hooke’s generosity is an incredible boost for the cause, neighbourcare need alot more
    like him to survive

Brian, many thanks for your kind offer. I am sure we’d will be able to sell the items through. Please call me on 352489 and I will arrange collection. The good news about this offer is not onlly the product that we can sell to raise vital cash for the project, but that it also gives us another avenue to explore, and another very useful contact. Any other ideas out there, please don’t hesitate to contact me on the above number. Many thanks again Brian, look forward to working with you. Regards, Tony

When I heard about this I was appalled. How can they shell out so much on senior salaries, and be miserly with £82,000, which on the council budget is a drop in the ocean, but which is worth a year’s operations for a charitable volunteer institution. If the Chief Executive of Hampshire reduced his salary to the same as the Prime Minister (£234,000 to £142,500) that would free up the necessary funds.

Given that that is unlikely to happen with the current administration, it needs big-hearted people to step up to the mark. Tony Hooke, the UKIP candidate for Andover South, is offering a large chunk of his councillor’s allowances if he is elected (around £12,000 a year I understand). I am going to do my best with giving the NeigbourCare Charity Shop some end-of-line stock from a mail order clothing business I ran, that hopefully will raise them over £2,000.

Are there any other businesses with end of line stock they could donate to them, rather than tipping it in the bin?
