St Mary Bourne based professional cyclist George Harper put in a solid ride at the Durham circuit to help One Pro Cycling take the team win for round five.
Harper crashed very early in the race and found himself a long way back of the leading group. However, the local rider dug deep and put in a superb ride on a tough circuit to get back to the group and play an instrumental role in taking the team victory on the night.
The team event is decided by the lowest cumulative time of the 5 man team with Harper’s ride edging out tour leaders Madison Genesis riders and putting One Pro Cycling just two points behind (65 v 63) in second place with Pedal Heaven third on 53 points.
The individual win was by Richard Handley (JLT Condor).
Durham provided round five of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series which is now on its seventh season of unique team based racing. A total of ten town and city centres provide the venues for the only British domestic cycle race series to be televised on terrestrial TV.
You can watch the Durham race on ITV4 tomorrow morning (Saturday 30th May) at 8.00am on TV or via ITV Player whilst round six at Barrow can be seen on ITV4 at 9:00pm tomorrow, Sunday 31sy May.
