Road Closures as A303 Resurfacing Starts Next Week

July 31, 2015 by Andover Town

Essential maintenance work to resurface sections of the A303 east and westbound carriageways around Andover is to start next week commencing Wednesday 5th August.

The work -at a cost of approximately £6m – is being carried out to ensure the local road network remains in a safe and serviceable condition.

In addition, there will also be resurfacing work which started in the autumn of 2014 between Bullington and Andover, as well as renewing road markings, applying an anti-skid material to the slip at Barton Stacey and replacing a bridge joint near Longparish.

For the safety of the workforce and road users, sections of the A303 east and westbound carriageways between the A343 Churchill Way/Hundred Acre junction and the A34 Bullington Cross junction will be fully closed overnight from 10pm until 6am (Monday to Friday only), when traffic flows are at their lowest.

The Schedule

Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 August
Westbound carriageway between the A34 (Bullington Cross) and the A343 (Churchill Way/Hundred Acre)

Friday 7 and Monday 10 August
Eastbound carriageway between the A343 (Churchill Way/Hundred Acre) and A34 (Bullington Cross)

Tuesday 11 to Monday 17 August
Eastbound carriageway between the A343 (Churchill Way/Hundred Acre) and A3093 (Picket Twenty)

Tuesday 18 August to Monday 21 September
Westbound carriageway between the A3093 (Picket Twenty) and A343 (Churchill Way/Hundred Acre)

Please be aware that these works have been carefully programmed but are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

Diversion Routes

During the closures, the following clearly signed diversion routes will be in place:

A34 to A343 Closures – the main diversion between Andover and Bullington will be via the A34 to Wash Common then south on the A343 to Andover – you are advised to allow an extra 30 to 40 minutes for your journey if you need to follow the diversion.

A3093 to A343 Closures – the main diversion will use the Andover ring-road (A3093, Northern Avenue, Redon way and Churchill Way West) – we would advise you to allow an extra 5 to 10 minutes for your journey if you need to follow the diversion.

These diversion routes will be in place due to their suitability for all types/sizes of vehicles and where other major roadworks aren’t in place, and has been agreed by the local highway and police authorities.
