Mums in the Know (MITK) have held their first awards initiative to acknowledge the best local businesses and services available to families in over 50 areas across the UK.
The MITK Awards 2015 have proved a huge success with over 3000 nominations across six categories and an incredible 15,000 votes being cast over the Mums In the Know network.
The readers of local MITK sites were asked to nominate their favourite child-friendly business, class or service in categories including Best Soft Play Centre, Best Place to Eat For Families and Best After School Class, with the top nominees short-listed to win one of the new titles.
Finalists were then announced on the website and readers voted for a winner in each category.
The MITK Local Star Award was chosen by the Mums in the Know panel from nominations put forward by the public.
Manager of Mums in the Know Andover, Sarah Gisbourne, who ran her local awards campaign, said: “It was great to see so many worthwhile local service providers being put forward by local parents for these awards.”
This year’s categories and winners for MITK Andover were:
- Best Soft Play Centre – Finkley Down Farm
- Best Class For Kids 0-2 – Little Lights, St Paul’s Community Centre
- Best Class for Kids 2-4 – Little Angels, St Paul’s Community Centre
- Best After School Activity/Class – The Long Overdue Theatre School
- Best Place To Eat for Families – Wimpy
- The MITK Local Star – Anna Robinson
Award winners will be given the MITK Award Winners logo to display on their websites or promotional material, as well as the chance to tell MITK readers what they’re all about in a winner’s article to feature on their local MITK website.
But it was not only local businesses that stood to win something, as every reader who nominated a business or cast a vote was entered into a prize draw — with the lucky winner taking away £250 of John Lewis vouchers.
Mums In The Know Co-Founder, Alex Uprichard said of the first Mums in the Know Awards: “We created the MITK Awards as we wanted to do something to honour all the great businesses and services we see out there for families across our local network.”
“We couldn’t be happier at how well our first awards run has gone. All of our local area managers have worked so hard and it’s been a huge success. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!”
The awards initiative will be run annually by MITK.
