Police officers are investigating a report of an attempted robbery against a 9-year-old girl on a footpath on Roman Way in Andover on 14th January.
The incident happened in between Corinthian Close and Turin / Genoa Court at about 7.10-7.20pm when a man approached the girl from behind and attempted to grab her phone from her back pocket.
The girl rode off on her scooter before the man could steal her phone. The man did not follow her and she was not harmed in the incident.
The suspect was described as:
- Mixed race
- In his 20s
- Black hair with small, ‘stubby’ dreadlocks
- He was wearing a dark-coloured ‘puffa’ jacket
We would like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident; police have not received any similar reports.
There was a group of people walking along the footpath at the time. Police would particularly like to hear from them.

We have heard from a local resident that “it happened around 4pm and she was near her home walking to a friends house” and are asking the Police for further clarification.
