Lucy Sumner and Erica Sheridan, both from Andover, will share the lead role in the popular musical Annie at The Lights from 13th to 15th August.
RARE Productions, the UK’s largest youth musical theatre production company, held open auditions at The Lights in Andover earlier in the year.
RARE director Andy Burton said: “We saw many very talented youngsters at the auditions. Casting proved to be a very challenging exercise but we’re really delighted with our cast and we know that this is going to be a superb production.”
The cast comprises young people between the ages of eight and 18 and Lucy and Erica will share the lead role of orphan Annie and appear in two performances each.
Erica, who is 11 years old, left Anton Junior School in July and starts at Harrow Way Community School in September. She was a main orphan in Andover Musical Theatre’s production of Annie a couple of years ago.
Ten year old Lucy, a pupil at Balksbury Junior School, has previously won school talent shows and also a holiday club talent show.
Lucy said “There were so many at the audition and I just hoped I’d get a place in the cast. To get the part of Annie is so exciting.”
Based on the strip cartoon Little Orphan Annie, it is the story of Annie, an orphan living in an orphanage run by the sadistic Miss Hannigan, and her quest to find her real parents. Although it transpires that her parents died a long time ago, the story has a happy ending.
Featuring such well-known songs as ‘Tomorrow’ ‘Hard Knock Life’ and ‘NYC’, this production will appeal to everyone.
Performances are each evening at 7.30pm with an additional matinee on the 15th August at 2.30pm.
Tickets priced at £14 (£12 concessions) can be obtained from The Lights’ box office 01264 368368, or online at www.thelights.org.uk
