Join Arbory for Some Fun in the Sun

June 18, 2014 by Andover Town

Local residents are invited to drop by Arbory Residential Home in Andover on Friday 20th June to join the team for some tea and cake, as part of National Care Home Open Day.

With the sun expected to shine, home residents, their families and members of the community will be enjoying a drink and a chit-chat in the home’s beautiful gardens and visitors are invited to drop by any time, to join in the fun.

Arbory, based on London Road, provides personalised care and support for those with dementia and mental health needs. Through its varied activity programme and specialist care it aims to help each resident to live a full and meaningful life.

Helping residents to stay engaged with the local community is very important at Arbory and outings in the home’s wheelchair friendly mini-bus are a regular occurrence, along with regular social events and other community initiatives.

Iain Slack, Arbory general manager, said: “The open day is the perfect opportunity for local residents to join us and see what life at Arbory is really like. It is such a vibrant and social place that’s full of character. And we’re lucky to have such fantastic grounds, perfect for a relaxing stroll or just sitting and watching the world go by.”

As well as holding events and maintaining close links with the local community, Arbory recently launched a community allotments initiative. The allotments will offer a lifeline to local people living in the community with dementia and their families.

Iain added: “Staying engaged and connected with the local community is really important for our residents. We’re very lucky to already have the support of many family members and community groups, who regularly visit to volunteer their time or share a musical talent. We’d love to build on these links and to hear from anyone who might like to get more involved.”
