The Environment Agency have issued flood alerts for villages North West of Andover at 6.19pm on Wednesday 19th February.
Information for the alert is as follows:
Groundwater Flooding in Surrounding Villages of Andover
Communities at risk of groundwater flooding to the North West of Andover, including Appleshaw, Hatherden, Penton Mewsey, Redenham, Weyhill Bottom, Kimpton, Amport and Monxton.
Groundwater levels continue to rise with levels at Clanville increasing by 0.5m in the last week. Levels are as high as the maximum recorded during flooding in 2000/01.
Some properties in Appleshaw, Hatherden and Kimpton suffered flooding at these levels during 2000. The forecast is for conditions to remain unsettled.
Over the coming days, 15 – 25mm of rain is expected. Any significant rainfall will run off more rapidly than usual into flooded areas as a result of the saturated conditions.
Groundwater levels are expected to continue rising over the next week and problems associated with high groundwater levels will persist for many weeks.
