The picturesque village of Enham Alamein has been announced as joint winner of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight ‘Village of the Year’ Awards, sharing the honour with the largest village in England, Bembridge, on the Isle of Wight.
Sitting a mile outside of Andover, this unique village is home to leading disability charity Enham Trust; a growing organisation supporting 7,500 disabled and disadvantaged people across the country to live lives of choice, control, and independence.
The Award, sponsored by Fullers Brewery with involvement from the Hampshire Association of Local Councillors, recognises the rich history of the village; from the famous Cottage on the Green built in the 1600s to the renaming of the village after the role its residents played in the battle of El Alamein in the 1940s; all of which can be rediscovered through the village’s Heritage Trail, an interactive timeline running through the centre of the village.
“It was a privilege to receive this award as joint winners with Bembridge Parish Council,” comments Leslie Francis, Chairman of Enham Alamein Parish Council.
“They obviously have the energy and enthusiasm to care for their village and residents as we do.”
The accolade also celebrates the efforts of the Trust and the Parish Council to improve facilities for all and provide an active caring community.
