Andover has a new radio station with the launch of Andover Beat – a community based initiative currently broadcasting online via their website.
Run as a CIC (Community Interest Company) it is was started in July 2013 after calls on social media for a local community radio station. Being a CIC means that if it makes a profit, this is ploughed back in to the project or put to use in the local community.
Andover Beat is headed up by local Matthew North and has already attended 2 live events to broadcast from including from a float at this year’s Andover Carnival.
Matthew said the long-term plan is to get an FM license.
“It’s been quite a journey over the past year, of which is just the beginning. We are now a C.I.C and currently pursuing to secure a venue within the town centre. It is a large and ambitious project indeed but one that is attainable and sustainable, one of which that will help to improve the already vibrant Andover community.”
“We aim to have acquired an FM frequency within the next year and are already involved in some large community events.”
“With the larger plans already coming into scope we would like to thank everyone for their continued support. Please do keep on listening and check out the website for more information!” he said.
