Choral Societies Combine to Perform Mendelssohn’s Elijah

Saturday 17th May sees Andover and Larkhill Choral Societies combine to put on Elijah 2014 – an oratorio written by Felix Mendelssohn in 1846 for the Birmingham Festival.

Depicting various events in the life of the Biblical prophet Elijah, the performance at st Mary’s Church in Andover will be the largest-scale enterprise undertaken by either society in recent years.

Both choirs will perform alongside an orchestra of talented students and young professionals and a stellar line-up of soloists, headed up by Philip Guy-Bromley in the title role, together with Lynsey Docherty, Heather Jill Burns, Austin Gunn. The orchestra will be conducted by Peter Ford.

Tickets are priced at £10 in advance, and £12 at the door; under 14s are admitted free.

Andover Choral Society

The present Andover Choral Society was inaugurated in 1971 to promote choral singing for all. At least two concerts a year are presented in St Mary’s Church, Andover, at which members are joined by singers and instrumentalists of the highest calibre.

Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings in Bridge Street Methodist Church, Andover. The society is always happy to welcome new members.
