A thriving Hampshire insurance business is helping young brokers in the industry by supporting a new national initiative.
Be Wiser, based in Andover, has put forward two members of staff to join the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) Young Brokers Steering group.
The group is run entirely by young people from nine insurance companies who are members of BIBA. The aim of the group is to provide guidance and resources to younger brokers to help them develop into future leaders.
The Be Wiser staff involved in the new group are 24 year old Max Thompson, who is the group secretariat and 23 year old Ben Collins, who is working on the BIBA website.
“Working with BIBA on the Young Broker Steering Group has already been an excellent experience; it’s exciting to help develop something that can really benefit Young Brokers and their development, along with my own,” said Max Thompson. “As Secretariat, I’ve been in contact with senior staff at some of the UK’s biggest brokers, and BIBA has been fantastic at involving myself and the group with the decision making and planning to help make the project a real success.”
One of the steering group’s first projects has been to develop a young broker day at the 2015 BIBA conference with high-profile industry speakers, so that young brokers can come along, network and learn. The group will also be developing a regional ambassador role to establish long-term involvement from younger brokers, along with identifying how BIBA can connect, engage and support young professionals in the insurance industry.
Crescens George, Director of Learning and Development at Be Wiser said, “Getting involved with the Young Brokers Steering group is exactly right for us as we believe in the ethos of supporting the development of young brokers. It is good for our employees as it will broaden their horizon and create a better exposure and connection with the industry.”
