Changing direction in your career can be a daunting prospect but two Hampshire women who have done just that want to encourage others to do the same.
Rachael Walvin and Ksenia Hammerton have both recently joined the Be Wiser More to Give programme. It’s aimed at people who may be returning from a career break, want to retrain in a new industry or want a less pressured role on the lead up to retirement.
“I would highly recommend and encourage anyone who would like a fresh career later in life to apply for More to Give as most of us do have more to give,” said Rachael Walvin.
Rachael, who lives in Shipton Bellinger, previously worked as a manager for the army but decided she wanted a new career direction.
“I decided to apply for the More to Give team as it was investing in the more mature person who wanted to try a completely different job. I liked the way Be Wiser seem to see the niche in the market to employ people from all different backgrounds with a plethora of experience to enhance their teams within the company.”
So far 22 people have joined the More to Give programme from different walks of life.
Ksenia Hammerton from Larkhill joined following a career break.
“I wanted to return to work to continue my career working in sales in banking. I then saw the position advertised and I saw an opportunity to get myself back into sales going in a slightly different direction, broadening my horizons and at the same time gaining an extra qualification,” said Ksenia.
Both women agree the experience so far has been good and they both feel valued and supported.
“The bonus at Be Wiser is the training, you are supported and genuinely cared about and you feel valued. I think that this is rare in a lot of companies these days” said Rachael.
“I am finding training for my job as Senior Consultant a real challenge but exciting, frightening and refreshing all at the same time!”
Ksenia agrees. “As there’s a lot of training at the beginning I’m feeling many different emotions at the moment. I am really excited to start the job but it’s challenging and demanding at the same time. I also feel very valued by the management and the team.”
