Stamp collectors from all round the UK came to Andover and provided a welcome boost for the local economy.
More than 1,300 people came to the weekend-long stamp show held at Andover Leisure Centre and many of the visitors also shopped in the town and stayed in local hotels, especially as some of them came from as far away as Scotland.
The stamp show is one of the highlights in the philately calendar and 72 exhibitors from across the UK brought their collections for display and trade.
Among the fans was Test Valley councillor, Iris Anderson, who met with stamp show organiser Melvyn Philpott who was very complimentary about the service he had received in the town.
“From the catering to the front of house team, the staff at Andover Leisure Centre were brilliant. We had an excellent weekend and it was overall a very special show,” he said.
The leisure centre is run by Valley Leisure, a charitable trust, which aims not only to get more people, more active, it also supports the local community whenever it can.
Kevin Paterson, chief executive of Valley Leisure, said: “We were delighted to host this year’s stamp show. It allowed us to showcase how we support an event of this size and boost visitor numbers to the town. It was a success all round.”
