Andover College Creative Media Student Selected by BFI

January 19, 2015 by Andover Town

BFI (British Film Institute), the UK’s leading body for film has selected Andover College second year Creative Media student Matthew Parfrey as one of only 40 people nationally to join their specialist course in VFX (visual effects) animation.

The residential course will last for one week and is designed to develop specialist film making skills. Matthew will work closely with leading industry professionals who will provide an insight and guidance into the filmmaking business. Key industry figures will take masterclasses which are integral to the programme as are hands-on skills training, trips, screenings, bespoke careers advice, guidance long-term support.

Along with the other students on his course, Matthew will work on an animation or VFX sequence supported by BAFTA-winning tutors. Leading organisations are involved in the programme with the BFI partnering with Passion Pictures, Munky, City & Islington College and The London International Animation Festival.

Peter Hearn, Andover College Lecturer in Media and Film Studies said: “Being one of only 40 people chosen nationally is a huge achievement and an incredible opportunity for Matt. It demonstrates he can step up with the skills and knowledge acquired on the course along with some boosted confidence and push himself toward a successful career. This industry is all about gaining contacts and getting your work in front of people who can offer chances, so I hope Matt will find those and be able to push himself to bigger and better things.”

The BFI is the lead body for film in the UK with the ambition to create a flourishing film environment in which innovation, opportunity and creativity can thrive. Amongst a number of significant initiatives the BFI champions emerging and world class film makers in the UK and growing the next generation of film makers and audiences.

The Creative Media Level 3 Extended Diploma at Andover College prepares students for the industry learning specific skills including use of cinematography, editing, storyboards, sound design, writing and directing.

The Andover College offers great facilities including multimedia studios, 40 seat cinema, suites running Final Cut Pro and Adobe Creative Suite, DSLR and video cameras and a photographic studio, including a dark room.
