3) Why should people vote for you?
It is time again to ask for your support as the County Council elections are on 2nd May this year.
Since being elected to the County Council in October 2010 I have set to work in the Children’s Services arena. I took an active part in ensuring that the 81 SureStart Children’s centres across Hampshire remained open. Both Spring Meadow and Acorns here in Andover are providing quality support for mums and mums to be who need help or who are just looking for reassurance. Of particular importance has been the increase, by 10%, of the number of outreach workers, there to support the hardest to reach vulnerable children and families.
This year County conservatives voted to freeze the council tax. You will have by now received your tax bill and can confirm this by looking at the top right of your bill. With the Hampshire portion being the largest, this will help individuals and families meet the economic challenges we all face at this time. The Hampshire freeze was possible because the conservative led county began to trim its cloth before the former chief secretary to the Treasury, Liam Byrne MP, left his infamous letter saying that ‘there is no money left’. This approach provides clear evidence that the conservatives can meet the financial challenges through the application of good business practice.
Our major local priority over the next few years has to be helping businesses across the town, and in particular the Town Centre. This needs to be done through teamwork and with the tiers of local government working together to support and encourage new and existing businesses. My own experience in business includes working for a number of firms, including the BBC where I travelled internationally supporting their commercial ambitions as well as running my own business here in Andover. I will put this experience to good use.
With two young children of my own I know just how important a good education is for building a great future for all of us. Both my children go to school in Andover and I have been a Governor at a local school as well as being a Trustee at Rookwood School on Weyhill Road.
I will be out most days meeting people and listening to their concerns. I’m sorry if I don’t get to see you personally (there are some 10,000 electors in this division) but if there is something that you would like to discuss with me then do please get in touch.
