Part of Andover town centre remains cordoned off this morning after a man climbed onto the roofs of buildings on Bridge Street.
He was detained by police on the roof at around 5.20am and brought into custody with the area between the bridge and the High Street taped off.
Police are maintaining the closures for the time being in order to investigate the scene and have the area cleared up and returned to normal as soon as possible.
Update 09:50
A Police helicopter has been called in to take aerial photos of the damage caused to the roof of the White Hart by the man on he roof.

bit much for one man on the roof, more exposure than the fiddler dude i reckon. he down now really need to keep stuff closed!?!? cut benefits and destroy lives but block roads unneeding to be blocked
GENIUS
cut benefits and destroy lives haha lol get a fucking job instead of sitting on there asses.
Think maybe you two need to get a room 😉
So why didn’t the police arrive at the scene so quick when the man was alive back in November near the multi story?! You lot take the piss, you really do.
I’m sure the police have closed the roads for a good reason.
The first comment here is idiotic. Benefits are being cut across the country because we can no longer support lazy people with no conscience and their growing families.
Not all off em are lazy there could be reasons small minded people like u make me so sick
I never said all people on benefits are lazy, most have a genuine reason for needing the financial support.
However, there are many who don’t deserve it and are just selfish, lazy slobs.
People like them make ME sick.
ok then 85% of them are lazy.
only ppl that get £500+ a week on benefits will notice any change. most workers would be glad to earn that much its stupid when ppl get paid more for not working
This is what I do not understand:
“He was detained by police on the roof”
“A Police helicopter has been called in to take aerial photos of the damage caused to the roof”
So that is around £6000 of tax payers money wasted on taking a few fancy photos… And they wonder why their jobs are being cut!
Getting a bit of track guys but some valid points . I’m sure the police wouldn’t make so many roads closed for no reason the guy could have been armed for one , lets give them a fair crack of the whip before we tear into them with no evidence !!!
