Tesco – Every Little Smell Doesn’t Help

November 6, 2013 by Andover Town

On top of the recent fuel contamination issue, Tesco on River Way appear to have an “air contamination” issue as shoppers have commented on both Twitter and Facebook about the bad smell.

There have been various theories as to what is causing it with apparently one shopper being told it was due to chicken fat, however Tesco have now issued a statement.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Due to the rainy weather water levels at the store have built up. Unfortunately, there was an issue with the pumps which means not all of the excess water has been drained. The problem is being fixed and we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

What I dont understand is why when you complain you get 4 different answers to what the smell really is. If drainage is the problem then surely that is a danger to peoples health.

Neil let me correct you. I have complained once and asked other members that are friends that work there. The only thing I want out of it is to know that the food that i purchase and my health is safe while shopping in store.

It’s not the first time I’ve noticed this smell! Over the last year or so it’s smelt like this from time to time, so why can’t they do something get rid of permanently. It reminds me of rotten farm manure!!!

Noticed this smell last week around fruit & veg isle, this week it hit you as soon as you walked in, smells like something has died. This is not the first time I have I noticed this smell, it seems to be there on a regular basis!

I made enquiries about this several months ago and apparently it was a problem with the drains, or so I was informed, it was then resolved, however it appears that it is recurring every time we have heavy rain fall, if this be the case then perhaps management should take the appropriate action and put an end to this issue, before the customers take their trade and shop in a less pungent environment.
