With the Test Metro in the Chantry Centre closing in June, it leaves a large property with access outside of the Chantry Centre available.
Whilst there has obviously been some concern over Tesco vacating the centre, others have seen it as a potential for another retailer to move in.
Andover currently has few places for a department store:
- Wilkinsons was a Co-Operative back in the 1980’s spread over several floor including the bowling alley on the top floor.
- Poundland was a Woolworths spread over two floors;
- Tesco Chantry Centre was spread over two floors;
- There is planning permission to turn 4 units in the Chantry Centre into a single larger unit;
While TVBC and the Chantry Centre can try to encourage businesses into the unit, ultimately it is up to the business as to whether they feel people in Andover will spend their money with them.
What would your preference for a business or businesses taking over Tesco Metro be? Do you think it’s good or bad news for the town that they are closing? We have a Waitrose and Sainsbury within reasonable walking distance.
