Hundreds of pounds have been raised for local charities thanks to a Swimathon organised by Anton Rotary Club in partnership with Andover Leisure Centre.
The swimmers’ efforts brought in just under £900, which was shared between eight different charities with a local connection.
The charities in line for support were: Andover Neighbour Care, Andover Young Carers, Andover Athletics Club, The Bruce Trust Andover Food Bank, Andover Cruse Bereavement Charity, Katie Piper Foundation and 3 Smiles.
The swimathon attracted people of a wide range of ages and abilities.
This included Miriam Moreton, who swam a mile for the very first time, and three generations of the Dearden family.
Tammy Dewhurst from Andover Leisure Centre and Barry Hawgood of Anton Rotary Club organised the event so that local charities could benefit.
Tammy said “This is the first time we have held such an event in Andover and while the turnout was not as good as we would have liked, hopefully it will set a marker for this to become an annual event if we can encourage more local people and local companies to participate.”
