The Andover athletes continued with their league success with some outstanding performances at the third race in the Hampshire Road Race League, hosted by Hardley Runners.
It is a friendly race with 440 entries and a lovely course winding through the New Forest around Exbury and along the Solent shore at Lepe. For an autumn event the temperature was well above average, mixed with some testing hills it made for a demanding race.
First in was Mat Dewey, competing in his first half marathon and the day after winning the National Tetrathlon Championships. Mat finished in twelfth overall and 8th senior male in a superb 78:48.
Next in for the blue & whites, in 30th and 9th MV40, shaving a minute off his personal best, was Steve Brett in 85:31.
Breathing down Steve’s neck, in 32nd place in 85:57, was Dougie Brisco, claiming 1st in the male vet 60 category. Dougie also smashed the Andover half marathon over 60’s record by a colossal 5 minutes.
Close on Dougie’s heels, in 35th place and rounding off the A team, was Rob Cliffe in 86:07. Rob also finished 2nd in the male vet 50 category.
The B team was lead home by Chris Dewey, turning on the gas in the last mile to break the 90 minute barrier in 89:35. Chris finished in 56th place and 17th Male vet 40.
Completing the Andover team in 80th position with another superb run was Tim Bennett, knocking over 2 minutes off his PB to finish in 93:53 and claim 6th MV50.
The Mens A team division 2 are now 2nd, 1 point behind the leaders. The B team division 2 slip to 6th on account of not fielding a full team.
