ATYFC 12s Blue (6) vs Popley Dynamos (0)
It was yet another win for Andover Town Youth FC 12s Blue at the weekend as they blew away Popley Dynamos on a wind swept Walworth pitch.
The Blues arrived to heavy wind blowing through the Walworth pitch with the team were committed to a fast start to this game and Darren Reeves keeping faith with the team that played so well last week.
The team also had the advantage of a strong bench including new signing Leonardo “Leo” Ferro.
The Blues were at it from the kick off and pressed high up the pitch with Jack Herdman providing an all action display, leading the team to contest every ball and compete in every area. The first goal came soon after, with good pressure and fine finish by Callum Woods.
The three defenders, Aiden Lowe, Max Bissett and Ollie Pitts have struck a great partnership. Aiden has been “amazing” since moving to the middle and has found his position, Max is as always reads danger like no other and Ollie has improved ten fold, starting to play the ball from the back and starting attacks.
As always, Daniel Butt made everything look easy in very difficult conditions.
The second goal came with a great team move including Cai Jones, Callum Lowe and finished clinically by Brandyn Reeves. The midfield were knocking the ball about and dictating the play, Jack, Cai and Callum (Woods) stifling the opposition and feeding the forwards.
Up front, strikers, Brandyn Reeves and Callum Lowe were causing problems for the Popley defence. Callum, starting for the first time since being injured, looked hungry for goals and showed some silky skills. Brandyn, who had a hand in most of the goals last week, stepped up and scored his second and Towns third, having been played through and bore down on goal, dispatching a trademark shot into the far corner.
Half time arrived, changes made with Matt Smith coming on for Callum Woods and Leo Ferro on for Cai Jones.
Before the restart, the coaches reminded the boys of the last match and their conceding four after the break, using the theory of reset and start again at nil nil.
The two new guys fitted straight in and Matt Smith got some important tackles in and produced some great passes to continue the Town pressure.
New signing Leo started as if he had played with the team all session and his first touch setup an opportunity whilst his second created his first goal for the Blues before going on to produce a great first game and showed he is a team player.
The tempo of play was now being dictated totally by Town and Brandyn showed why he has been previous top scorer, by supplying the fifth and completing his hat trick.
Having earlier in the day being ill and in bed till 11:00am, Cayden Brooker was introduced with 15 minutes left and, having discovered his shooting boots, was in the right place to finish off the scoring with a classic tap in.
Jody Pitts for the team said after the game “Today’s performance was in my opinion the best I have seen from this group of players. The man of the match today was Brandyn Reeves, he showed us all what a creative and clinical player he is. Sublime touch and placement and deserved the plaudits for a complete display. Max Bissett gained the Sportsman award, great tackling and calm possession, his reading of the game, made his performance stand out.”
“This squad again proves that they have the appetite to achieve as much as they want and can be rightly proud of the level they have reached. With Town now two points behind the leaders after seven matches, having just been promoted, shows how far we have come. Well done all, players, parents and coaches!”
