A new rugby hub run by Andover Rugby Club kicks off at Winton Community Academy this week.
The aim of the new satellite club is to encourage youngsters who attend the school as well as those who live in the local area to get involved in the team sport.
“We want to encourage everyone to come along, those who have played before and those who have never played,” said Winton Academy Director of Sport Andy Cole. ”They just need to turn up with their PE kit, boots and gum shield.”
“We are really pleased to be working with Andover Rugby Club to offer this rugby hub at our school. There will be professional coaches there every week and we will be using all the schools sports equipment.”
“Rugby is a great sport. Apart from the obvious physical and psychological benefits of the game it’s also good for discipline skills and working as a team.”
The hub which will run every Wednesday afternoon from 3.15 to 4.15 has been financed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight School Partnership.
“We are really pleased to be getting involved with this new rugby hub at Winton Community Academy. It gives us the opportunity to open a coaching centre in a different part of town that is easy for people to access and gives local youngsters the chance to find out what we are about.”
“It isn’t just about finding new players it’s about giving these youngsters the chance to learn new skills and be part of our rugby club,” said Andover Rugby Club Director of rugby Andy Waite.
