Andover cyclist Ruby Chappell was competing amongst the world elite on when she took part in the Prudential Ride London Women’s Grand Prix on Saturday (9th August).
Of the 100 starters, which included a line up of Marianne Vos, Lizzie Armistead, Laura Trott and Giorgia Bronzini, Ruby came in 64th.
“Just to be racing on the same course as the likes of Marianne and Lizzie was surreal. Overall I am pleased with my performance; it was such a great experience” said Ruby.
She also managed to get some free advertising for Behind The Bikeshed, the family business that she works and races for.
“I gather the camera bike was following the group I was in for about 10 – 15 seconds in one section and you could see the logos. Maybe I should ask for a pay rise” she joked.
The race was won by Italian rider Giorgia Bronzini who beat world champion Marianne Vos in a thrilling sprint finish. Lizzie Armistead finished in third place, just ahead of fellow British riders Eileen Roe, Laura Trott and Hannah Barnes.
