Over the past 3 years, Andover Music Academy have led in the organisation of a Pro-Equality Festival which has involved the participation of local and national community groups and charitable organizations; all of whom have enhanced the vocational, academic, social and professional development of the students involved.
This year, for the first time, Respect-Fest will be held at both campuses and are extremely excited to be involving students and staff at Sparsholt College on 11 March 2014 as well as presenting a second event at The Lights, Andover, for the first time on 26 March 2014.
The Sparsholt event, 11 March 2014, will focus on the Gambian Child charity, Ichthyosis Support Group and broadly on Disability Awareness. Local musicians will be performing a wide range of uplifting, life-affirming music with social or political themes and, in terms of community outreach, disabled ex-military personnel are to be participating in informally informing and educating those who attend, Grateley House staff will lead workshops and other specialist organisations are to be invited to deliver interactive awareness-raising activities. This will involve lots of college students performing in bands for their college course for the worthy cause.
The Andover RESPECT-FEST event, 26 March 2014, has been preceded by school liaison with local Secondary schools and a Battle of the Bands event earlier in March 2014. The winners of this competition heat will perform alongside a broad range of local musicians. In addition, a range of diverse charity groups will be invited to speak at the event, making this our most accessible and welcoming festival to date.
There will be lots of local bands taking part in the battle of the bands including; Tonight We Fall, The Revenant, Follow the Water, Tanners Lane and Purple Embers. Alongside some local charities such as the MS Society, Andover Minds and Anthony Nolan’s Blood cancer charity and bone marrow registry.
Tickets are available from The Lights at £5 or £4 for concessions.
