Test Valley Borough Council is on course to help Andover College with funding to build the proposed Technology and Skills Centre by loaning them part of the money required to get the centre up and running.
At its meeting at the end of October, Cabinet agreed to put a recommendation to full Council at its meeting on 12 November, to approve a loan. The loan would be subject to the college agreeing a suitable package of support with Hampshire County Council and the Enterprise M3 LEP.
Once open, the new facility would provide young people with learning opportunities in engineering, construction and related vocational courses.
Economic Portfolio Holder, Councillor Peter Giddings, said: “I am looking forward to recommending to full Council a funding package to help create a brand new Technology and Skills Centre, which would be a fantastic addition to Andover College. The centre would allow the college to run highly desirable vocational courses which would contribute to meeting local demand for practical skills.”
The proposed funding would comprise a loan of £240,000 from Test Valley Borough Council to the college on favourable terms for a period of 10 to 15 years. The project would support two of the Council’s corporate priorities; to develop a competitive local economy and to encourage communities to reach their full potential.
