A new golf club has opened at Charlton Lakeside called “The Charlton Lakes Golf Community” and has the aim of getting the community involved with golf.
It is open to all regardless of age, sex or ability plus there are no joining or membership fees. Clubs can be borrowed free with a returnable deposit of £5. It is the ideal way to get into golf at no cost.
The only charges made are the modest green fees for playing the 18-hole Charlton Lakes par-3 Golf Course; adults £4.20, children £2.10, adult concessions £2.85. If you are a member of the Leisure Centre then it’s free.
The club has a planned programme of events that include social golf games, fun events and formal competitions. The first event, running daily until 6th April, is an “Eclectic” competition, where players complete 3 rounds and the best score on each hole counts as their eclectic score.
From this event, handicaps will be awarded so that members of different abilities can compete on equal terms in future events.
A spokesperson for the club said “The club has proved attractive to golfers who want a quick round, ladies and beginners.”
They added: “If there is sufficient demand, golf lesson will be provided by a professional at no or little cost.”
Charlton Lakes is a good place for all the family. While some play golf, others can enjoy a range of other activities. plus there is a café serving drinks and light meals.
To join the club, play a round of the course and fill-in the form on the back of the scorecard or you can join through the web site www.charltongolf.net – a unique community sporting experiment.
