Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Iris Andersen, cut the ribbon to officially open the new West Street pay and display car park at Andover Magistrates’ Court on Friday 30 October.
The council applied for planning permission to use the car parking area around the Magistrates’ Court as additional pay and display parking after purchasing the site in July this year. The 51 new parking spaces, which include two disabled spaces, will be particularly valuable to customers of The Lights and Andover Leisure Centre.
Portfolio holder for planning policy and transport, Councillor Martin Hatley, said: “I am delighted that we are able to offer this additional pay and display parking in the town. The new car park is open for anyone to use but hopefully it will be of significant benefit to those visiting The Lights and Andover Leisure Centre.”
The council worked closely in partnership with Hampshire County Council to acquire the site after it ceased to be used as a Magistrates’ Court, and the two authorities are continuing to explore options for its use.
