Dog owners, particularly proud of their pooches, may want to put Saturday 27 September 2014 in their doggy diary. Andover 11th Scout Group are organising a fete at Burghclere Down Community Centre with a dog show as one of the star attractions.
This light hearted celebration of a man’s (and lady’s) best friend will look to find Andover’s most handsome dog, prettiest bitch, appealing eyes and waggiest tail. There’s a category for the best puppy (under one year), best veteran (over 7 years) and of course a Best in Show. Four legged entrants and their owners need to register by 1pm with the competition due to start at 2.00pm.
Fete fun starts at 12.00pm through to 3.00pm and visitors can look forward to plenty of stalls to entertain both adults and children such as the Splat the Rat, coconut shy, Mousey, Mousey, Golf Game, Wheel of Fortune and Wine to Water to name but a few.
Fetes are a great place to pick up a bargain so come prepared to update your books, toys and try your luck on the tombola. They’ll also be a penalty shoot-out, a bouncy castle, fire engine and digger.
All this fun is hungry and thirsty work so the scouts have laid on a BBQ, a tea room serving hot and soft drinks and home-made cakes and ice creams.
Howard Valentine, one of the fete organisers who is raising funds for Countess of Brecknock Hospice said: “We’ve organised an event which will provide a few hours entertainment for the entire family. Our Dog Show is an opportunity for all dog lovers to come along and have some fun. We’re not looking to find the next Crufts Champion but if you think there’s something special about your pooch then do come along on the 27th September and join in the fun.”
All proceeds from the Burghclere Down Community Fete will be going to the Countess of Brecknock Hospice and the Andover 11th Scout Group, two very worthwhile local charities.
