Test Valley families can get active and have fun this weekend by being part of the first ever borough-wide Community Games.
The games, which are being held in Andover on Saturday [25 July] and in Romsey on Sunday [26 July] aim to recapture some of the spirit of the 2012 Olympics by bringing the community together through sport and fun activities, including hot air balloon rides.
The games are part of Valley Leisure’s annual Sports Fair and are being held in the north of the borough at Charlton Lakeside Pavilion from 10am to 2pm on Saturday.
Linda Arnold, sports and activity development manager with the Valley Leisure, said: “Sport is a great catalyst for bringing people together. We want the oldest, and the youngest, in the town – and everyone in the between – to come and watch or take part in the day. It’s a chance not only to have fun with friends and family but also to learn more about how they can keep fit and have fun throughout the year.”
Representatives from local sports clubs and community organisations will also be at the Sports Fair giving advice on how more people can be more active by joining local clubs and activities.
The Andover event will start with a charity fun run, suitable for all ages, where people can run, walk or jog for 5k or 2.5k.
There will also be a range of other fun activities including hot air balloon rides and a BBQ.
It costs £3 for entry to the 5k and £1.50 for the 2.5k. Bookings can be made online now at www.valleyleisure.com/buyonline.
The money raised through the fun run will be split between Macmillan Cancer Research and 3SMILES – a respite service run by Valley Leisure to support disabled children and their families.
