Andover Leisure Centre has had a bumper year for children’s activities with over 1,000 spaces being booked by local children on holiday camps this summer.
The number of children joining the holiday camps in 2015 has almost doubled since 2013. And the popular swim school programme has also hit record numbers. More than 1,400 children now attend swimming lessons each week.
Linda Arnold, sports and activity development manager said, “We’re really pleased with the success we’ve seen in children’s activities and continue to strive towards providing quality childcare as well as our commitment to keeping children active and exercising throughout the summer.”
“I’m very proud of our dedicated swim school instructors and it’s testament to them that so many local children are learning this vital life skill.”
“We’ll be running the next holiday camps and swim school crash courses in October half term. And as these are proving so popular and places are limited, we recommend parents book early to avoid being disappointed.”
Valley Leisure, the charity and social enterprise which runs Andover Leisure Centre and Charlton Lakeside for Test Valley Borough Council, has seen more children coming to the activities than before.
This includes children’s holiday camps at both sites and the Explore Outdoor adventure activity programme running at Charlton Lakeside, where children learn canoeing, climbing, survival skills and more.
This year Valley Leisure has introduced an online booking system, to make it as easy as possible to book a holiday camp. Bookings can be made online at www.valleyleisure.co.uk or by calling Andover Leisure Centre on 01264 347100.
