Andover can boast one of the best-run leisure centres in the whole country, according to an independent report.
The Andover Leisure Centre has retained its spot in the top five per cent of UK leisure centres after it received an ‘excellent’ rating in an assessment by Quest, the UK quality scheme for sport and leisure, backed by Sport England.
Kevin Paterson, chief executive with Valley Leisure, the charitable trust which runs the centre on behalf of Test Valley Borough Council, said: “The Valley Leisure team believe wholeheartedly in providing great services for local people. We’re delighted, and very proud, that our approach is considered excellent by Quest, who set their standards extremely high.”
More than a half a million visits are made to Andover Leisure Centre each year by people from all avenues of life. This includes teenagers on the way to the gym, toddlers in swimming lessons and older people, often on sticks and frames, who are prone to falling, who come to special classes to build up their balance and leg strength.
Jess Browning, physical activity development manager from Valley Leisure, said: “We want to encourage more people to be more active. So we make sure there’s something for everyone. No matter how fit they are we will help them get fitter and feel healthier and better about themselves.”
