In May three days of national commemoration have been planned to mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
The celebrations will include a ceremony at the Cenotaph in London on 8th May, a national service at Westminster Abbey and a parade.
Street parties to mark the 70th anniversary are being planned all around the country over the weekend of the 9th and 10th May. In Test Valley the Borough Council wants to encourage local communities to do the same. Why not get together with friends or neighbours in your street, take your family for a picnic in the local park, or join forces with your whole village to arrange a celebration?
This is a fantastic opportunity for people to get together and remember the sacrifices made by so many during World War II, both overseas and on the home front.
It is also an opportunity to appreciate the freedoms and liberties that we are so lucky to enjoy today in the UK.
For help with how to organise street parties, road closures and advertising the Council has published some easy to follow guidance which can be found at: www.testvalley.gov.uk/planyourevent
